One Year Anniversary for Molly

We adopted our cat Molly one year ago this month.  Molly was Paul's Mom's cat and  she was so worried about what would happen to Molly when she died.  We told his Mom not to worry about her, that we would work something out.  Paul's Mom died and then our cat Shanana died a few days later and so we adopted Molly.
She has been a good cat.  She loves the outdoors when we have good weather, but definitely hibernates indoors all winter.  She loves to hunt mice, rats, and rabbits (unfortunately).  She will sleep in a little box with a  blanket in Paul's workshop if he leaves the door open.
Here she is coming indoors from the back balcony.  We only let her out during daylight hours.
She is a well behaved cat.  She is the first cat we could let wander the house at night.  The other cats we've owned we had to confine to the laundry room because they would wake us up by meowing or attacking our feet while we slept.  Most nights Molly will sleep at the foot of our bed and leaves our feet alone, or quietly goes off somewhere else in the house.
This is her at the top of the stairs.  When you go upstairs she will race by you to get to the top first and then she will throw herself down in front of you so you will pet her.  Silly Molly.  Happy Anniversary, we are glad we have you.

Surprise!

On Mother's Day I really enjoyed the special things my daughters did for me and a phone call from Ryan, but what really surprised me was to get this in the mail.  It was a box of chocolate covered strawberries sent to me by my brother Ron and his wife Donna.  I talked to him and said you aren't suppose to do anything for ME on Mother's Day.  But he said they just wanted me to feel loved.  They know that depression is my daily companion and that just getting through a minute, an hour, a day is hard.  Needless to say, I felt very loved and special.
They were so delicious.  There were dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate. Doesn't it just make your mouth water!  I even shared them with Paul and he got as much delight out of them as I did.  Thank you Ron and Donna for such a pleasant surprise.  It is nice to be loved by family.

Book Club Tea Party

Sometimes I don't feel like I have very many interesting things to blog about like all of you younger generation with your cute kids.  But this week I did do something different from my dull, ordinary day.  I attend a book club each month and once a year we have a Tea Party Luncheon to go with it.  I hosted it at my house this year.  My sister Debbie and sister-in-law Muriel gave me these beautiful teapots, pitchers, and sugar bowls, along with all the cups and saucers.
The little spoons I let the ladies use to stir their tea was from Paul's grandmother's collection of teaspoons.  It has such a fun variety of shapes and colors.
This was the table setting.  I used my mother's real silverware which my father gave to me.  The beautiful crystal glasses and real china were given to me by Claire and her daughter who use to entertain a lot in Florida.
Beautiful finger sandwiches created by Regina.  They were a big hit with everyone.  We had tons of delicious food:  scones, tea cakes, soup, chocolate fondue, lemon curd, cookies, and on and on.  I was so busy serving it all that I forgot to take a picture of it.  The table was loaded from end to end, with no room to spare.
Our southern Belle, Claire.
Our literary expert, Lela.
We have fun dressing up for the occasion if we so feel inclined.  I thought Joan's outfit was especially well coordinated.
I wish you could see my necklace, ear rings and bracelet better.  They were my Grandmother Fuqua's that my mother gave to me.  She said she remembered her mom wearing them when she was a little girl, so that would have been around 1930.
Three lovely ladies all in a row.
We will miss Mearl, she will soon be moving back to Hawaii.
Monica decided to take off on the Oriental side of a tea.  She had the traditional dress with the big bow in the back.  And so that was my adventure of the week.

Fostering Kittens

In 2003 our family decided to foster kittens for an organization until homes could be found for them.
It was loads of fun and work.
What follows are pictures of some of the cats we fostered.
Here is Nicole with a cute little tiger cat.

Three of the little tiger cats.
They meowed so loud, especially when I had to transport them in the car, that I was glad to get rid of them.

Sorry I couldn't get this picture of Nicole turned the correct way. She is happy to have a cozy kitten in her lap.

This kitten really liked Ryan!

She was a pretty black and white cat.

Sometimes they liked to cuddle up together, since they were brothers and sisters from the same litter.

She is saying "Please adopt me!"

A lady knitted blankets for the kittens so they would have something soft as they traveled in their cages.

Which one would you choose?

People I Love

I was sad not to be able to make it to my nephew Ben Nielsen's wedding in the Salt Lake City temple.  But I was happy to see pictures others took.  This is one of my favorites.  It is of my Dad, my daughter, and my grandbaby, three very special people in my life.  I love my family.
